Description

The Root Canal Glacier in Denali National Park is a favorite destination for climbers in the spring. Every year, people travel from all over the world to test themselves on routes such as Ham and Eggs on the Moose’s Tooth and the Tooth Traverse. Reaching the glacier is an adventure on its own, since the only way to get there is by small airplanes fitted with skis that can land directly on the snow. The aircraft shown here is a De Havilland Otter, a sturdy plane that can carry up to ten people and has become a familiar sight in this remote and rugged place.
